ECO® Start/Stop System Myths

You may have heard that the ECO® Start/Stop system damages engines in Mercedes-Benz vehicles, but Keyes European is here to help clear your mind. The system is designed to reduce unnecessary idling and engine use by shutting off the engine and turning it back on again between periods of use while driving. This helps to reduce emissions output and increase vehicle fuel efficiency.

One myth about the system is that it’s bad for the engine since there is more on/off activity, but that’s just not the case. The damage that occurs with consistent on-and-off activity is most present when the vehicle’s engine has cooled and the lubricants and fluids in the system have to warm up again. The ECO® Start/Stop System is designed to prevent this cooling and will turn back on before damage occurs.

How to Turn the ECO® Start/Stop System Off

While there are many benefits to using the ECO® Start/Stop System in your Mercedes-Benz vehicle, you can deactivate it if you want. The process is simple. All you must do is locate the button with an A in an open arrow circle. Find this button on the center console or near the start engine button. Press the button to turn the system off.
