Battery service is important to vehicle health, especially in the winter when temperatures are below average. Our Mercedes-Benz service team at Keyes European has compiled some tips and information so that you have a better understanding of what we can do with your battery and how to keep it running best all year long.

What is battery service?

Your battery will likely need to be changed out every four years or so. The first step of battery service having us test your battery and its acid level. Our mechanics might determine it needs more water added or a battery load test to make sure it is charging properly.

The next step would be cleaning the battery and looking for corrosion. We will also check and clean your battery tray and cable terminal ends so that there’s no buildup or other issues there.

If its performance is lacking or there is clear deterioration, it may be time for an upgrade. Our dealership will remove and recycle your old battery (which can be an inconvenience in and of itself since batteries can’t go in the trash), then we will replace it with a new one.

What are the don’ts of battery care?

The most common time our customers have battery issues is when their car is not frequently driven. This can be due to out of town travel or deployments, having a secondary car you don’t use as much, or good old social distancing. However, it’s important to not only start, but to drive your vehicle every few days. Manually charging, or overcharging, your battery can cause long-term problems as well.

If you’re in the Van Nuys or the LA area and want to shop for your Mercedes-Benz parts online, we can assist you with that, too. Stop by or give us a call to learn more!
