Decide on Charging Level

While there are technically three charging options to choose from, Level 3 charging, or DC Fast Charging, is only available at public charging stations and not at domestic residences. Level 1 charging is the type available through your existing infrastructure, but its 120-volt architecture is slow, and typically reserved for Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles or recouping a small amount of power after a short trip. 240-volt Level 2 charging is available with the simple installation of a home charging station, and will charge your vehicle more quickly.

Decide Where to Park

One important thing to remember when charging at home is that it will take some time. You’ll want to make sure that your electric vehicle is out of the way of any other cars or supplies you might need while it’s plugged in. Plan your installation so the charging port is easy to access while minimizing inconvenience.

Plug Your Vehicle In

Once your vehicle is safely parked, charging is simple and easy. Locate the port, connect the charging cable to the port, and follow the prompts on the charging system. It’s helpful to estimate your charging speed in advance, so you know how long it will take to get to full.
